F. Buesser, 1886-1901

The following is from Saleste, Paul H., Ninetieth Anniversary of Saint John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, January 1, 1935. (Spelling and punctuation as in the original.)

Rev. F. Buesser, was next in the succession. The claims of youth, in an English-speaking country were becoming louder and louder. The fathers were German, and satisfied that way, but the descendents were American, and what would the church do about it? Well, during his time, Rev. Buesser felt there was nothing to do about it. But with it all, he was a man with a ringing note of conviction in his voice, a man of a certain type, a bit inflexible to the demands of change, and yet serious, capable and spiritual. His German treatises, were published for many years in the "Friedenbote" and his gifts of administration later vaulted him into the Vice-Presidency of the Synod. During his term, the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Church was commemorated. Chimes for the church tower marked the event. The Ladies Aid was a hive of action. The Sunday School was growing. During this time, the church was redecorated and remodeled, and a new Pipe Organ installed, the same instrument which served the third church until 1926. Rev. Wm. Dresel writing in the booklet detailing the Sixtieth Anniversary, says, "My! how everybody worked for the church during this time. It is a pleasure to read the reports of the year 1894." (This 1894 year, has a mite of significance for the minister leading the Ninetieth Anniversary Celebration also.) Another custom, established in those days, which has brought many blessings, is "The Annual Easter Offering." For forty years now, this splendid custom, of offering a special Easter Gift, has guaranteed the prosperity of the church.
