The following is from Saleste, Paul H., Ninetieth Anniversary of Saint John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, January 1, 1935.

So brief a space of time, so far away, even eludes narrative in perspective. H. Hunsche, the second minister seems to have ministered during a period of low tide in economic fortunes. But faith is bigger than periods of depression. It makes for determination. The world is made netter by those who say, "God is helping us, it can be done." The second year of a minister's life is said to be the hardest. In the same way, I imagine "the second ministry of a church" is not among the easy ones. And so the congregation battled through the storms of life with their minister. The congregation survived, but he did not. After four years of preaching he resigned, gave up preaching and settled on a farm in Ashland County.
